New Years 2012/2013

I was still in Michigan at my brother’s to ring in the new year. The town he lives in had fireworks on New Years Eve. Many of our family decided they didn’t want to go out in the cold, so my mom and brother and I all went to see them.

We parked in the mall parking lot, and the fireworks were shot off at the park right across the street. It was literally as if we were consumed by the fireworks at each explosion. It’s probably the closest I’ve been to fireworks ever (minus the ones you set off yourself).

The show lasted about twenty-five minutes and then we went home and played games the rest of the night. We played Mexican Train/Chicken Foot Dominoes with the eight of us who were there.

Later in the night, some of us played a game called Wits n Wagers. It’s a trivia game of sorts and everyone puts their answers on a little white board. Then their answers are put on a wager board and everyone wagers on the answers they think are correct. After eight rounds, whoever had the most poker chips, wins.

I knew several of the answers from useless trivia I’ve learned from watching the Jay Leno Show. We all got a chuckle about that. Elika’s brother would occasionally say “I’m voting with Diane…that sounds like a Tonight Show trivia fact.” 🙂

At midnight Michigan Time, we toasted with champagne or sparkling cider and popped party poppers.

Danny and Elika had the traditional Midnight Kiss.

Then we rang in the Minnesota New Year (where Elika’s family is from) an hour later, and then two hours later (3am Michigan time) we rang in the California new year! So we celebrated the New Year three times!

And so the New Year is upon us!
