Health Update

Me in S.F. - Condo Building

June 4, 2010

It has been quite some time now since I have written a health update. I just decided I was sick of talking about my health and wanted to be able to just write about my life happenings for sometime. I keep promising an update to people, so here it goes.

I am going in this morning for surgery. They are treating my bladder disease, interstitial cystitis as well as doing a spinal block. The spinal block is meant for pain control – hoping to alleviate some of my stomach pain and my pelvic pain – for a longer period of time than pain meds do.

My pelvic pain has been really; really bad recently which is why this surgery got put back on the schedule. I was not going to go through with it, but have been bedridden this week due to pain and I do not know what else to do at this point. I may also lose my insurance the end of July so I need to get as much taken care of right now as I can.

My stomach continues to be a problem. I still struggle eating, though I can keep food down at this point. Certain foods are bigger triggers for the stomach pain than others so I pretty much live off of a few foods. Fruit and yogurt are two of the main foods I have found that usually do not hurt my stomach. The problem there is that there is not a source of protein there.

Red meats seem to be the hardest on my tummy so I avoid those for the most part. Sometimes I really want a few bites of steak or something so I make an exception and deal with the consequences. Food is not the only source of pain, rather it just makes the pain worse. My stomach hurts probably 80 percent of the day and I live on pain medication to treat it. I am on heavy-duty pain killers. These meds are not meant as long-term medication, but I am being treated by a pain specialist so he is monitoring my medications carefully. In the next month we will be talking about other options for pain control – more permanent options, such as implanting pain control devices inside me. This is not something I want to have to do. The doctors are starting to hit a wall and are unsure what else to do at this point.

I will blog an update after surgery when I can. Please pray for the procedure to go well and that this brings some pain relief for me. Thanks for all the prayers and support friends. It means so much to me!

    • Thank you Joanne. I love you too! We need to hang out soon. I need some mexican food…and you missed my ACTUAL birthday, lol! So we must celebrate. hahaha

  2. Dearest Diane,

I hope all went well and you are having some relief already. I’m praying for ya.
Cottage cheese is supposed to be a good source of protein – can you eat that?

    Love you friend,
    me

    • I can eat cottage cheese Analene. Good idea. I did not realize it was a good source of protein. At least I think I can eat it…seems like it would go okay on my tummy. I will have to try. I do not neccesarily love cottage cheese, bt am willing to try to acquire more of a taste for it since my diet needs it. Love you!

  3. You are in my prayers Diane. I hope they find answers for you and a speedy recovery!

    • Thank you Jonna. I will post a new update, post surgery soon. And I plan to send u a message on FB as well. Blessings to you, friend!
